Application

Select the correct Bosch power tool for the job. The correct power tool will do the job better at the rate for which it was designed.

Grinder Inspection

Required to ensure safe operation of tool as well as personal safety for operator and bystanders.

Power Source
A hand in a gray work glove holds a plug.
Disconnect from the Powersource

Disconnect the plug from the power source or the battery pack from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing the tool. Such preventive measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.

Corded: Proper use of the cable

  • Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
  • Keep the power cord away from the grinding wheel and the material being ground/cut.

Cordless: Proper use of the battery

  • Batteries require inspection to show no visible damage due to dropping
  • Ensure battery has been fully charged
  • Ensure battery has been stored in temperatures between 32 - 113 °F or 0 - 45 C°

Safety Guard
Two silver Bosch Professional accessories are lying on a metal surface.
Guard

Guards must be provided and adjusted properly as per the instruction manual. Replace damaged guards before using the grinder, because if an abrasive wheel breaks while rotating, it can cause a serious injury.

Note: Use the corrcet guard based on application [grinding, cutting] and per local regulation

Side handle

Side handle should be installed on the guarded side of the tool. Ensure side handle is not installed on open side of guard.

Wheel Inspection

Check the wheel

Do not use a damaged accessory. Inspect the accessory before each use. Inspection could include examples such as abrasive wheels for chips and cracks, backing pad for cracks, tear or excess wear, wire brush for loose or cracked wires, diamond disc for missing segments. If power tool or accessory is dropped, inspect for damage or install an undamaged accessory if neccessary.

Maximum speed

  • Do not use a wheel with a maximum RPM that is lower than the RPM rating of the grinder. Accessories running faster than their rated speed can break and fly apart.
  • The maximum speed in revolutions per minute (RPM) is marked on every wheel. Never exceed this speed.
  • Bonded wheels have an expiration date. DO NOT use if the wheel is expired.

NOTE: Use regional conversions for m/s or RPM’s, etc.

Correct applications

Do not use accessories which are not specifically designed and recommended by the tool manufacturer. Just because the accessory can be attached to your power tool, does not mean it should be used. Refer to the instruction manual for recommended accessories.

Size of the wheel

  • Do not force wheels onto a grinder that is the wrong size or change mounting hole sizes
  • The outside diameter and the thickness of your accessory must be within the capacity rating of your power tool. Incorrectly sized accessories cannot be adequately guarded or controlled.
  • Do not use worn down wheels from larger grinders. A wheel intended for larger grinder are not suitable for the higher speed of a smaller grinder and may burst.
NA NOTE: The standard spindle size is 5/8”x11. The arbor size is 7/8”. The accessories are marked with the arbor size and not the spindle size.
For large angle grinders, the standard spindle size is 5/8”x11 and the arbor size is 7/8”. They require an adapter backing flange for large wheels.

EU NOTE: The standard metric spindle size is M14x2.0. The arbor metric size is 20mm. The accessories are marked with the arbor size and not the spindle size.

Workpiece Safety

Fastening the workpiece

Clamp the workpiece if it is not secure under its own weight. A workpiece clamped with clamping devices or in a vice is held more secure than by hand.

Supporting large workpieces

Support panels or any oversized workpiece to minimize the risk of wheel pinching and kickback. Large workpieces tend to sag under their own weight, so supports should be placed under the workpiece near the line of cut and near the edge of the workpiece on both sides of the wheel

Alignment of tool and workpiece

  • Workpiece/ area must always be in front of the user
  • Ensure proper positioning of guard
  • Ensure proper positioning of user

X-LOCK wheel and guard mounting

Place the accessory on the X-LOCK accessory mount, by aligning the shape of the accessory X-LOCK mounting hub with the X-LOCK accessory mount on the grinder.

Push the accessory in X-LOCK accessory mount. The accessory audibly clicks as the clamping tabs lock into place.

Check that the edge of the accessory X-LOCK Mounting Hub is correctly engaged in the slots X-LOCK clamping tabs. If the top surface of the accessory X-LOCK mounting hub is higher than the “V” shaped clamping height gage (located on each side of the X-LOCK accessory mount), the X-LOCK accessory must not be used until this condition is eliminated by cleaning the X-LOCK accessory mount or replacing the accessory.

NOTE:

Do not attempt to pull the wheel release lever until the wheel has come to a complete stop.
