When you drill into concrete or other mineral materials containing quartz, such as brick or stone, you create large amounts of silica dust. One of the most common and hazardous dust types on the jobsite, silica dust particles can be 100 times smaller than a grain of sand. Many workers breathe it in without realizing. This can lead to major health issues in the long-term such as silicosis (the scarring and stiffening of the lungs).
